Carl is also the author of the CSS study, “Will Catholics Be ‘Left Behind’?” based on his book of the same title which was recognized by the Associated Press as one of the best religious titles of 2003. He is the editor of IgnatiusInsight.com, an online magazine that provides readers with news related to the Catholic Church and the work of Ignatius Press, one of the world’s largest Catholic publishers. Carl has written articles for Crisis, The Catholic Faith, Catholic Parent, Envoy, This Rock, First Things, Gilbert!, Touchstone, Canticle, Saint Austin Review, New Covenant, The Catalyst, Lay Witness, and Catholic.org. He is a regular contributor to National Catholic Register and This Rock magazine and writes the weekly “Opening the Word” Scripture column for Our SundayVisitor. He was the editor for the award-winning Envoy magazine from 2000-2004. Carl has an associate degree from Briercrest Bible College, an Evangelical Bible college in Saskatchewan, Canada and a Masters in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas. He and his wife, Heather and their two children live in Oregon.

Aggie Dowd is the owner and founder of Exceptional Edit.com and has more than 40 years of writing and editing experience. During her professional life, she has been reporter, feature writer, research writer, editor, and columnist. Aggie was a research writer and editor for William. F. Buckley Jr. for almost 15 years. He once called himself, “Aggie’s most promising student.” Beginning in 1965, Aggie worked on eight of his books, receiving public acknowledgment from Buckley. In “The Governor Listeth” (1970), Buckley wrote, “My special thanks to Miss Agatha Schmidt, without whose help I could not possibly have managed this book. In fact, I cannot imagine how anybody manages a book without Aggie.” Over the years of her association with Buckley, Aggie also researched and edited his thrice-weekly syndicated columns, and wrote the research packets for his weekly television show, “Firing Line”. Most recently, from 2005 until his death in February of 2008, Aggie collaborated with Buckley on his very last book, which she hopes to finish in the near future. Aggie and her husband currently reside in Virginia.
Katie McDermott is a professional writer and editor. For over 20 years she worked within The University of North Carolina System as the communications director and senior editor of publications for two research institutes. She has taught at the college level and has produced training programs, video symposia, and international conferences for governmental, non-governmental, and private sector professionals. Katie received NC State University’s Unit Award for Excellence in Research, Outreach, and Extension and was also recognized for outstanding teaching and public service. In 2007 Katie left the university to home school her son who has intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since that time she has helped build a new special needs ministry at her home parish of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. She currently volunteers as lead catechist for the parish’s special religious education program. In addition, Katie continues to provide freelance writing and editing services to a variety of clients.Katie has a B.A. in English (Writing and Editing), a B.A. in Communications (Television, Radio, and Film), and an M.A. in English (Rhetoric and Composition). Katie, her husband Scott, and son Dylan make their home in Apex, North Carolina.
